I hope you’ve had as much fun reading this month’s Thought Partners as I’ve had writing them. It’s been a unique and interesting challenge for me to pick and choose whose words mean a lot to me and which I think might resonate with you. I hope I’ve come close to hitting both targets.
Our last June Thought Partner, “Some Final Words” showcases quotes from not only those in my industry who I think highly of but also quotes from clients, as well as myself. Enjoy some final quotable quotes!
On making sure you’re working on the most important things:
- James Clear – “You don’t need to worry about progressing slowly. You need to worry about climbing the wrong mountain.”
On creating and maintaining boundaries, while keeping things moving:
- Dan Rockwell – “A river with no boundaries is a swamp.”
On processing change and the grace needed to achieve progress:
- My awesome client based in Ohio – “Change: it allows people to reinvent themselves. Progress: we’re all a work in progress; we need to be able to give ourselves the space to PROgress so we can make progress.”
On learning how to create space for other voices in the room (not just the leader’s):
- My awesome client based in California – “Hm, I guess it’s time I make silence my friend. I never really cared for [him].”
On random leadership musings:
- Stacy Berg Jackson –
- “Be cautious you’re not a victim of planning the future with today’s information.”
- “Two things can be true at the same time.”
- “You can be right or you can be productive. Sometimes you have to choose what’s most important.” (In highly contentious situations I’ve been known to swap out the last part…”You can be right or you can have peace. What’s most important?”)
- “Your windshield is twice as big as your rearview mirror for a reason. Keep looking forward.”
